Defra Volunteering Fair November 2009
Time & Talents for Westminster were commissioned to design and run the Defra Volunteer Fair in Nov 2009. Like Defra’s ESV programme, the volunteer fair was focused on conservation of the natural environment and sustainable communities. Approximately 25 charity and community organisations had stalls at the fair, giving the opportunity for staff to find out what organisations do and to sign-up for volunteering opportunities.
The event was opened by Huw Irranca-Davies, Minister for Marine and Natural Environment and Helen Ghosh, Permanent Secretary of Defra who described their personal volunteering experiences and why Employer Supported Volunteering is so important to Defra. Speakers included Head of Community Affairs, PwC; HR Manager, DCSF; experienced Volunteer, Defra and CEO of Volunteer Centre Westminster. This was followed by a lively Q&A session for staff interested in finding out more about volunteering, the process of doing so, the challenges involved and how to overcome them.
