A City Transformed through Sport

Saman Jafar, a volunteer football coach for Kyu-Yo-Bu-Shin won the "Active Volunteer" at Volunteer award at Westminster City Councils Active Westminster Awards held at Lord's Cricket Ground on 18th November 2011.
Living in a hostel aged 16, Saman wanted to do something positive with his time anf give something back to the community.  He says: "When I got placed in a hostel, I struggled.  I couldn't get a job and had lot of free time." He decided to take action and visited Volunteer Centre Westminster to find a suitable sports volunteering role.  This led to a VCW placing him to a volunteering role.  This led to a VCW placing him in a volunteering role at community football club Kyu-Yo-Bu-Shin where he coaches young people aged 8-17 and is a great role model due to his dedication and his ability to coach a wide age range.
After volunteering for a couple of months as an assistant football coach VCW funded his FA Level 1 coaching award.  He has been volunteering with the club over a year now, alongside studying engineering and planning a fundraising campaign for a Raleigh International Expedition to Costa Rica.
Congratulations to Sam for all his hardwork and dedication to the club over the past year, a worthy winner of the award and the 2012 Olympic tickets that came with it!  (Author: )
