Young Carers Volunteer Project
The aim of this project is to provide the opportunity to Young Carers to share their unique talents and skills and to benefit from volunteering by learning new skills and gaining experience, building confidence, making a difference, having fun, making new friends and meeting new people.
We do that by:
- Creating a wide and diverse range of volunteering opportunities tailored to the specific needs of Young Carers. These range from so called ‘taster sessions’, one-off event volunteering, virtual volunteering and part-time roles.
- Providing good practice support to organisations about involving Young Carers as volunteers.
- Raising awareness with Young Carers about the benefits of volunteering and offering them ongoing support throughout their volunteering.
- Organising celebration events to celebrate volunteering achievements by Young Carers and developing accreditation schemes.
A Young Carer is a young person whose life is affected by a long term illness or disability of a parent, a sibling or any other family member and who provides practical, physical and/or emotional support on a regular basis. A long term illness can also mean taking care of someone who suffers from any form of mental health issues or addiction.
