Volunteers
Volunteering in the City of Westminster can offer you the chance to make a positive contribution in one of the most diverse communities you'll find anywhere in the country. Volunteering in this busy, vibrant city can also give you the chance to enhance existing skills, develop new ones, meet new people and have lots of fun!
There are lots of opportunities out there...
How to start volunteering
Identifying your availability and interests. Before you start to volunteer it is important to take time to think about exactly what it is you want to do, how much time you want to commit and how often you can do it. Different organisations have different types of opportunities which take place at different times and in different ways.
Visiting the do-it.org.uk website will give you a good idea of the sorts of opportunities that are available: it lists all of our Westminster opportunities.
Registering
You will need to register with us to receive the full details for any Westminster opportunities: whether you'd simply like information about a specific opportunity you saw on do-it.org.uk, or if you'd like to use our drop-in service, search our opportunity database yourself, and receive one-on-one help with finding the right opportunity for you.
You can register with us in a number of ways:
- By visiting the do-it.org.uk website, finding a Westminster opportunity that interests you, clicking the 'apply for this opportunity' button, and completing a registration form.
- By coming in and filling in a registration form in person, between 10 am and 4 pm Monday to Thursday.
- By telephoning us on 020 7402 8076 and leaving your address so we can send you a form in the post.
What next?
Completing our registration process gives us the information we need to match you up with a selection of volunteering opportunities that may interest you. While we have some opportunities at the Centre our main job is to act as a broker for other organsisations and provide you with information about the sort of roles they have avaiable and the type of people they are looking for.
- If you have sent us a request about a specific opportunity through the Do-It website, you will be emailed the full details including the contact details of the organisation offering the volunteering position. You will then be free to contact them directly.
- If you would like to take advantage of our personal brokerage service, you are welcome to come and visit us anytime between 10 am and 4 pm Monday to Thursday. You don't need to make an appointment: just drop in when you're free.
Volunteer Centre Westminster has a team of friendly volunteer advisors who can guide you face-to-face through the volunteering opportunities we currently have available, and help you find something that matches your interests and skills. There are also confidential interview areas available if you would like to have your discussion in private.
If you or someone you know has a disability or health conditional and may you may be interested in our supported volunteering projects; Learning Disability and Volunteering for Health.
Data Protection
Please note that during the registration process your personal information will be held on the Centre's secure computer system. Your details will only be retained in order to match you with suitable volunteering opportunities and will not be passed onto third parties.
You have the right to request to see the information we hold about you at any time, free of charge by calling the Centre to arrange an apointment.
