Volunteers and Child Protection

I am in contact with a project that is set up by young people (up to 25) for young people, and exists without funding being run young people volunteering as organisers. As the group has expanded massively there is a need for some formal awareness around child protection as the lead volunteer has become aware of issues that are coming up from young people attending. Does anyone know of any support they might be able to access, and if there are any other projects that have developed policies around this from a young person perspective, and inline with cross london procedues?

Topic started by vcw user

Diversity and Equality

Most organisations adher to a Diversity and Equality Policy. But some struggle with involving people with learning disabilities because they can not offer them sufficient support. And other will not involve volunteers who don't speek fluent English because they will not be able to communicate with their clients. Can we call this discrimination or should there be understanding for organisations?

Topic started by Shiereen Saib

I am playing devil's advocate here but I hear this evry now and then : "Volunteering is a reward in itself, so we don't need to reward them in any other way." I would like to hear your views on this.

Topic started by Shiereen Saib

8 replies. Last reply from vcw user on 17/03/2011 14:08

 vcw user 17/03/2011 13:51
I work on a Project at VCW which supports adults with learning disabilities to volunteer. I am always looking to work with new organisation who can provide opportunities for my clients. The most popular types of roles are office based, helping with mail - outs, data entry, photocopying, shredding, filing etc. Others include gardening, catering and retail. If anyone would like to work with us please get in touch with me louise@volunteer.co.uk If you have not involved people with learning disabilities in your organisation before, we can provide advice, guidlelines, training and support for volunteer managers. We're currently producing an accessible website which will showcase our work and those we work with. I hope to hear from you soon!!

Topic started by vcw user

1 replies. Last reply from on 17/03/2011 13:54

Hello
I have a volunteer who has outgrown her role as a reception volunteer at our centre and there is not much else she can do for us. She likes to gain some experience in working with children. Is there anyone who would be interested in having a talk with her and see if she can be placed in your organisation?

Topic started by vcw user
