Where food comes from (primary)

Food comes fromHelp the children learn about growing plants through interactive activities. A school near Baker street which has no green space and their playground on the roof of their school would like to improve the children’s awareness of food and health. They are working on getting their plastic bottle greenhouse up and running and need volunteer support.

You can create:
  • Planters using plastic bottles.
  • Water collector from recycled items
  • Labels for seed planting with the fruit and veg designed onto them.
You can run an activity on nutrition and vitamins present in fruit and vegetables.

This could also include helping the children complete their plastic bottle greenhouse, set it up including fitting it out with tables, compost, seeds and plants.

Requirements

Optional elements:

  • Initial meeting with the school in which we will co create the project (a Blue Bay team leader could attend this if they wish)
  • Input in project design (optional)
Essential elements:
  • Briefing/training session (including full details of the activities and timings) for volunteers either before the event or on the day
  • Debrief at the end of the project to discuss as a team how the day went & evaluation completion
