Many charities want to embrace new media but do not have capacity to fulfil it and are seeking volunteers who can spare some time to promote them online. This opportunity gives you a unique chance to support a charity to make the most of the opportunities that social media offer.

Example Tasks include:
  • Using the latest social media tools to promote the organization
  • Maintaining established social media tools, i.e. Twitter, Facebook, Flickr, YouTube
  • Networking with social media strategists and other social media interns to leverage all aspects of social media
  • Producing quality, timely content for audience members
  • Research relevant topics
  • Improving online awareness of the charity & increasing followers
Necessary Skills:
  • Ability to liaise with the charity staff to collate news to then share
  • Ability to represent the charity to many different groups in a professional manner
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to produce and release content on a regular basis
Qualifications:
  • The ideal social media volunteer should have exceptional writing abilities and be extremely organised.
  • Basic proficiency with computers, cloud computing, major social media applications, and mobile messaging is necessary.
Involvement:

This opportunity may vary depending on the organisation, their setup, priorities & strategy- example below:
  • Initial Meeting with charity to frame (1 hr)
  • Read the social media strategy & recommendations report (1hr)
  • Weekly catch up with charity & implementation of plan (1hr a week - can be done remotely)
  • Regular feedback to the charity (quarterly)
