A-Level students learn about Justice System

Run by Ministry of Justice for a local Westminster school

Project Summary

A group of A-Level law students from a Westminster academy visited the Ministry of Justice (MoJ) for a day packed with presentations, workshops and discussions with senior personell from MoJ and the Justice System.

Project Details

The day included a range of interactive activities and workshops with specialists from units across the Ministry of Justice, as well as with a practicing District Judge and staff from the Prison Advice & Care Trust (PACT). These gave students the opportunity to consider law and justice from its development at the policy level to delivery through the judiciary and its implementation through the prison and community support systems. For example, senior level MoJ executives worked with students on the process of getting bills through Parliament whilst senior MoJ analysts helped to illustrate how statistics and economic models play a role in developing policy.

Offering insight into potential careers within the Justice system, Mark Ormerod, Chief Executive of the Law Commission, talked with students about his career development and the nature of his role at the Law Commission.

The students were given a warm welcome into the department. Deputy Children's Commissioner for England, Sue Berelowitz, joined the students for lunch, checking with them to see how their day was going whilst Charles Clarke (then Secretary of State) sent a personalised video message to welcome students.
