Launch of ‘Blue Peter Go Cardz Appeal’ supporting Whizz-Kidz
20 September 2010
Blue Peter, BBC's flagship children's television show, today launches the new Go Cardz Appeal on behalf of Whizz-Kidz, a charity which helps disabled children up and down the country to lead more independent lives.

Blue Peter and Whizz-Kidz are asking children to make Christmas cards which will in turn be sold in selected Tesco shops nationwide. All proceeds of sales are to go to Whizz-Kidz. The cards will be available for sale at Customer Service Desks and at in-store cafés in December. The Go Cardz project aims to raise enough funds for 100 Whizz-Kidz Wheelchair Assessment Clinics across the UK. These clinics will help hundreds of children obtain wheelchairs more quickly to enjoy a more fun, active and independent life.
A revolutionary Volunteer Involving Project:
This project is a first for Blue Peter and an ambitious volunteer involving campaign. Thousands of volunteers are needed to help at the Go Cardz Fulfilment Centre (space sponsored by Land Securities) to help create packs, and to help distribute to Tesco branches once the cards have been created and returned by children nationwide. The Fulfillment Centre in Victoria is NOW OPEN until 21 December. The project has only been launched today and already over 100 people have volunteered to create 17,000 Christmas card packs. Whizz-Kidz hope to involve 2,000 volunteers by the close of the project in mid December.
Help to make it happen!
Who can help?
Anyone over the age of 16 can volunteer so it's a great way to meet new people and help a charity at the same time. Your time is very precious and by supporting this national campaign you are helping raise awareness about disability, raise money for young people with disabilities to get support & equipment to live independent lives.
Large scale project for national appeal

Whizz-Kidz need to create 100,000 packs to send out to children all across the country and are therefore are seeking 100 volunteers a day to help at the centre. Volunteers do not need any special skills or experience to take part. It's a great opportunity for local individuals, community groups, older people, businesses to all come together to help.
How it works on the day:
|
 |
Step 1: Briefing
Upon arrival all volunteers are given a full briefing by Whizz-Kidz Staff. This will include health and safety as well as training in how to create the packs. You will then be shown to your table and given your materials.
|
| |
|

|
Step 2: get teamed up!
When you arrive you will be put into teams of 4-6 each team needs think of a unique team name which will be written on their scoreboard. Mini competitions, we honk the horn when each team make 100 packs and it gets the groups cheering each other on. |
| |
|

|
Step 3: choose your role:
Volunteers will be responsible for a variety of different tasks: • Assembling the card materials packs to be sent out • Checking created cards when they have been returned • Sorting materials into piles • Wrapping - putting packs of cards into wrappers ready for sale |
