I hope you are all enjoying the sunny weather (long may it last…!) Now that the World Cup is over, and Spain are basking in their glory, you could consider volunteering in your spare time. FUSE Festival

FUSE is London’s most ambitious one-day free arts festival designed with and for young people. Organised by the Royal Parks to enable you to share your creativity, explore new ways of expressing yourself, see what others are doing and share in the excitement. vInvolved Central London will be there, so please come along and say hello!


Youth Media and Fashion

Creative Media Camp taking place 26-30 July at the University of Arts, Camberwell. There are over 40 free spaces for young creative people aged 14-19 to get involved in a week intensive media camp working on a real live national Campaign client brief, with professionals from the industry. Skills include: Graphic Design, Film, Animation, Screen printing, viral Campaigning and lots more - with a VIP judging panel to give feedback on Friday. The Young Designer Awards rewards exceptional design talent, and identify those who have the potential to break through the boundaries of creativity and become fashion leaders of the future. The awards is designed to raise awareness of multi-cultural cutting edge designers, and are open to young people aged 9-25 years who have a passion for fashion, who have an ability to do intensive research and have a natural enthusiasm for the subject. This year winner’s whose work is up to the standard required will win the opportunity to have their work sold in high end designer boutiques in the UK. The International Designer Award will be on hold until we have a group of winners with collections that are suitable to show on the world stage at New York and Paris Fashion Week. OPPORTUNITIES

A full-time voluntary opportunity is a chance to get vital work experience, by committing to volunteer 30 hours per week for 3 months. It looks great on your CV and will stand you in good stead next time you have to fill in an application form or need to give a good example at a job interview! A placement can give you valuable work experience and greater confidence as you develop your skills and progress in your career. You'll even be encouraged to take advantage of training opportunities, as well as keeping a log of hours and work for rapid progression towards a vAward. Here are our full-time opportunities of the month:

Childreach: Corporate and Community Fundraising Intern (2 positions available) - Our Corporate and Community Fundraising Managers are seeking assistance in developing the department. A varied and challenging role - coordinating skydives, presenting to school children, partnership proposals, event planning and account management. Alzheimer’s Society: Memory Walk Volunteer
Memory Walk for Alzheimer’s Society is annual flagship fundraising event at Weekends during September. Walks are mass participation walks with main London event being on Sunday 26th September starting at Imperial War Museum. You will be required to work throughout or part of the day from 8am-5pm approx. No special qualification needed, but this opportunity could be ideal for you if you enjoy working as part of a team, and have experience of outdoor charity events. Alzheimer’s Society: Cheering Volunteer
You will be cheering all the participants for Alzheimer’s Society at the Adidas Women’s Challenge in Hyde Park on Sunday 5 September between 10.30am-12 Noon. Around 15,000 Women take part in this event in total, with over 200 women representing the Alzheimer's Society. Hearing a cheer at a crucial point is often spoken about as the highlight of the whole experience from a participant’s point of view, so this is your chance to be part of the cheering squad for Alzheimer’s Society. Sue Ryder Care: Fundraising Coordinator
Main tasks are to research, identify and develop community links for raising funds for Sue Ryder care. This also includes coordinating fundraising projects, including the Sue Ryder International Cup. A great opportunity for someone to gain experience of fundraising at a national charity. You will work closely with fundraising team and marketing department. Must have excellent organisational skills, and good communication skills. This role is two days during weekdays for three months (July - September 2010)

Lambeth Police: Summer Project
The Lambeth Summer Project provides a recreational and educational activity programme aims to challenge, stimulate and interest. The workshop programme has a theme that covers issues of gang crime, anti-street robbery, bullying, burglary, drugs and alcohol awareness and incorporate issues of the environment and people’s quality of life. The activities programme includes rock climbing, canoeing, sailing, fencing, ice skating and day trips. Sports include football, cricket, tennis and much more. Volunteers are important and integral part of the projects. You must be over 18 as your role is to support activities for 9-16 year olds. A fantastic volunteering opportunity working with children and young people during the summer. Dates are Monday 26 July -Friday 20 August at different locations in Lambeth. St Luke’s Timebank: White Cross Summer Party
Help running activities at Street Party during the day on 24th and 25th July at Whitecross Street in Islington. The event will be packed with art exhibitions, street entertainers, rides and performances. Main tasks include help to provide general support, helping on information stall and on arts and crafts workshop.
St Luke’s Timebank: Youth Engagement Volunteer
To help individuals or small groups in EC1 improve their IT Skills. This will include helping people to understand current digital technology to a basic level. Also help to keep website up to date, and also membership database. There will also be opportunity to provide healthy living activities to users in EC1 area, and also arts and crafts activities and also music tuition, including piano and guitar. Importantly you do not need to have skills in all aspects, but may want to specialise in any of the activities. This includes I.T. skills, music. Volunteer any day from Monday to Friday in morning, afternoon or evening. INTERNATIONAL VOLUNTEERING:
Childreach: FutureBuilders Open Evening (18+ Only)
Childreach International is a UK registered grassroots charity. We work in partnerships with local communities in the developing world to help improve children’s access to healthcare, education and human rights. Futurebuilding is an innovative Childreach International programme that provides participants the opportunity to play an active part in a valuable community project in a developing country. To introduce you to Futurebuilding and introduce you to the types of projects you could be working on we are holding an open evening on: Thursday 5th August at 23 Hand Court, London, WC1V 6JF from 6.30pm-8pm and they would be delighted if you could join them. The Daneford Trust: Volunteers needed for overseas projects in Africa, Asia and the Caribbean
The Daneford Trust is currently looking for volunteers to join their overseas volunteer programme, allowing you to use your skills and experience to work with communities overseas. Projects include working with street children in Bangladesh, helping to run a youth club in Botswana, or working in a home for disadvantaged children in the Caribbean. Current placements include schools, youth centres and health centres, and can last anywhere between 2 -12 months. You need to be between 18-30 and living in London to apply and the Daneford Trust will help you to raise all the necessary funds you need to travel. No specific qualifications are necessary, just enthusiasm and commitment. It would be helpful to have some experience of working/volunteering with children, young people or communities.
