Volunteering Statistics
For those of you who are interested in statistics, we have recently been finalising some high level numbers about volunteering outputs for the centre in the financial year 2009-10. These are posted below.
As some of our funded projects operate in a wider area than Westminster, in key areas, the ‘Westminster only’ data had been abstracted from the total for the purposes of reporting to our funders.
Please note that the figures do not include do-it.org (internet) enquiries and registrations. The reason for this is that these are extremely numerous and we do not currently have the resources to monitor which of these result in actual volunteering placements – This area will be looked at separately in the future.

Here are some other interesting statistics about national volunteering activity:
National Picture
- 26% of adults in England and Wales volunteer formally at least one per month
- 41% volunteer once per year
- An estimated 22 million people volunteer each year
- Formal volunteering contributes around £22.7 billion to the UK economy each year
- Including informal volunteering this rises to an estimated £48.1 billion or 2.1 billion hours
- 23% of people who engaged in formal volunteering did so in health, disability and social welfare settings
