CRB & ISA - Update and workshop
The last couple of months have been interesting. The Vetting and Barring Scheme, recently developed by the Independent Safeguarding Authority (ISA), has been halted and there is as yet no indication if, and when, it will be re-instated. However, we are hopeful that if re-instated it will be thought-out in a simpler manner and be an improvement on the rather onerous and complicated policy at originally proposed which so many organizations have been expressing their concerns about to us, especially with regard to casual volunteering, and the impact it many have in recruiting volunteers.
Meanwhile, new CRB forms came into effect on the 26th July, and whilst they are slightly confusing due to the fact that they refer to the suspended ISA scheme, their introduction has gone fairly smoothly so far.
Volunteer Centre Westminster (VCW) together with Voluntary Action Westminster (VAW), hosted a well attended CRB/ISA presentation and workshop at the Stowe Centre on 22 July during which Razia Sattar from VAW presented the latest developments regarding the vetting and barring scheme and Susan from the VCW answered questions on the CRB checking process and took the delegates through a form filling exercise. It was clearly obvious from the session there are many queries about the CRB system as a whole.
Please remember that both Susan and Razia are here to help you with any queries about CRB and ISA, and Susan is especially keen to help organizations with the transition to the new CRB forms.
