The sun is shining and it looks like summer is finally here. I hope you all celebrated Volunteer's Week in style at the beginning of June. This month's vInfo tells you all about our Volunteer's Week activities, updates you on news of the Vetting and Barring Scheme and promotes our free training event at the beginning of July.
On the 7 th June, the team, eVolve (our Youth Action Team) and City Year transformed an outdoor space for Finsbury Park Homeless Project. We were digging up weeds, planting flowers, and painting a fence!
The event was to celebrate Volunteer’s Week as well as the Homeless Centre’s 25th anniversary. It was a great day, the Family Centre was incredibly grateful for the help, the sun was shining and fun was had by all.
We are in the middle of preparing for our next big FREE training event 'Youth Volunteering - making it count through the reward and recognition of achievements' taking place on Wednesday 7 July. Keep reading for more details of this. taking place on . Keep reading for more details of this.
Vetting and Barring Scheme (VBS) Update
On Tuesday 15 June the Government announced that they would remodel the Vetting and Barring Scheme introduced by the Labour Government. As a result, the ISA registration stage of the scheme has been halted and will not launch on 26 July 2010 as planned.
It's not yet clear what the remodelling will include, what we do know:
§ It is business as usual for the Criminal Records Bureau
§ The elements of the VBS put in place back in October 2009 continue
§ Existing requirements concerning the CRB will remain in place, and those entitled to such checks can continue to apply for them.
To find out the latest and stay up to date with changes as and when they are announced keep an eye on the CRB website.
