Employability Mentoring Project

Partners

VOLawardLogoDepartment for Transport (DfT) with South Westminster Renewal Partnership.
Training and toolkit provided by Red Ochre.

Project details

DfT fast streamers provided one to one support for local job seekers on the Churchill Gardens estate near Pimlico through a six-month mentoring pilot.

The Churchill Gardens estate is the largest in Westminster comprising thirty-nine tower blocks, with approximately 60% of tenants in receipt of housing benefits and a significant number registered as unemployed at the local job centre.

Mentors worked together with job seekers on areas such as: confidence building, UK work culture, CV writing, interview technique, and job applications.

Four mentees found employment as a result of the project, and it is hoped that the pilot will be rolled out to other Government Departments and employers in Westminster.

“I think it has helped me in my management and leadership skills. The need to adjust your thinking and approach for someone who had a different background and learning style from me is experience I have definitely brought back into the workplace.”
