Employability Think Tank

Our second Employability Think Tank was hosted by SThree. It focused on empowering NEET young people or young people at risk of becoming NEET (not in education, employment or training) to get into work.

Key Points:
  • Update on what is going on already (and what has happened since the Employability Think Tank meeting in summer 2008)
  • Discussion on what can be done to inspire and up-skill young people to prepare them for employment
  • Developed project ideas for employers and community partners to work together to address priority issues
Key project ideas:
  • Mentoring young people
  • Peer-mentoring of charity workers / school teachers (including senior level)
  • Career talks – raising aspirations in school
  • Employability workshops (including CVs, mock interviews etc)
  • Work experience placements (and apprenticeships)
  • Work buddying
  • Pre-employment training
  • Networking events
  • Using social media such as Facebook

July 2008

Our first Employability Think Tank took place in July 2008. It focused on providing a space for employers and youth services to brainstorm ideas around potential ways employers can get involved in pre-employment support to help young people find meaningful employment, through employer supported volunteering projects.
