A lunch to remember served up at One Westminster's first fundraiser

IMG4431A good time – and some excellent dim sum – was enjoyed by nearly 50 people at One Westminster’s very first fundraiser, held to celebrate the Chinese New Year in the heart of London’s Chinatown on 1 March at the Golden Phoenix restaurant.

IMG4498The tea flowed freely and a mountain of freshly prepared dim sum  –  from delicious shrimp dumplings to the lightest egg custard tarts –  ensured that the hungriest of guests were satisfied. Very generously the restaurant also provided a goody bag for each person packed with Chinese treats to take away at the end of what was a lovely Sunday lunch. A raffle at the end offered a wealth of prizes ranging from National Theatre tickets to champagne.

IMG4586Gareth Owen, One Westminster ceo, thanked Edmund Yeo for providing the venue and the board of trustees for their support. “This whole event has generated a feeling of well-being and warmth,” he said. “I am delighted that so many of you have been able to join us and hear a little about our ongoing projects.”

The lunch raised around £850 from ticket sales, raffle and donations. All the proceeds will go to One Westminster front line projects, in particular befriending older isolated people, adults with learning disabilities, and helping young people develop skills that will increase their chances of employment.
