Three cheers for One Westminster’s marathon man

julian and winners medal2Yes, our operations manager Julian Hamlin actually made it over the finish line of the London Marathon on 26 April – and in so doing raised more than £1,000 for One Westminster’s front line projects.

Back at work the very next day, he remembered: “I got round in five hours and 46 minutes. I was on target for four hours and 30 minutes all the way up to the 20-mile mark when my body simply ran out of energy…  I just hadn’t done enough 18+ mile runs as I was only offered the place relatively recently.

“The 20- to 24- mile part of the course was very tough. By then my legs were like lead and I felt like I simply had nothing left to give - but the crowd was amazing and the last two miles felt like the home straight. I found I could pick up my pace a bit and I made the finish line running with what was probably a grimace on my face, but my head held high!

Julianmarathon2“I would highly recommend the London Marathon to anyone considering doing it - it's a great occasion. In fact, some of One Westminster's volunteers take part in helping to run the event -- and every penny of the money that has been donated is going to One Westminster.”
